MAGS Youth Program
.......... .......... .......... ..........

There are approximately 50 youngsters (ranging from 5 to 15) enrolled in the MAGS youth program. While the adults are having their montlhy program (2nd Friday night of each month), the youth are busy with their own program. The Youth Director and Assitant Youth Director plan monthly activities and encourage the youth to take part in the monthly MAGS field trips. On occasion, a special field trip or other event is scheduled just for the youth and their families.

During the annual Mid-America Mineral, Fossil, Jewelry Show (sponsored by MAGS), our youth play a major role in coordinating the activities in the Rock Zone . . . and they take time to enjoy digging for a while in the gem dig or taking a spin on the "Rocks around the clock" wheel.

Our youth are active every year in the Memphis and Shelby County Science Fair. It is not unusual for a MAGS youth to take first place in the Earth Science division of the fair.

Our youth are also members of the FRA (Future Rockhounds of America), earning badges and doing activities associated with this AFMS (American Federation of Mineralalogical Societies) sponsored organization.
